In February of 2009, President Obama signed into law The American Recovery and Reinvestment Act, offering American homeowners the opportunity to receive a Federal tax credit for energy-efficiency improvements. Such improvements include air sealing; duct sealing; attic, wall, and crawl space insulation; along with several other energy saving investments. Energy Advisors offers Energy Audits that identify your home’s inefficiencies. Once the problems are identified, we offer suggestions to make the proper improvements that can save you money on the overall operation of your home and qualify you for the federal tax rebate. It’s not too late to make the improvements necessary to qualify for the energy tax credit in 2010.

The average cost of heating, cooling, electric and water, for one year should equal your total square footage of living space. If you are higher than $1 per square foot you owe it to yourself, and the earth to do something about it. That’s why, Energy Advisors of the Tri-State, has made it our mission to help our customers operate their home at its highest efficiency. In return, saving our customers money and preserving the environment.

You would think that all those tax returns are being used for reinsulating. Not in the Lehigh Valley everyone is thinking about going solar or maybe one of those new geothermal heat pumps.
What most consumers don’t realize that their homes are using more energy than they need to. Most people think as long as they got insulation they have done all they can.
Right now the department of energy is recommending an R49 so if you have 6 inches of insulation you have a whopping R18. Not to mention the amount of energy you are losing thru air penetrations in the attic. If your insulation company is not air sealing you should continue to shop. Over 25% of a homes heat loss occurs thru air exchange.
So if you have 6 inches of insulation it is time to insulate and air seal you could save up to 45% on your heating and cooling. Don’t sound like much considering these window companies, and the shiny foils guarantee 40% savings.Everyone should replace there windows, get the shiny foil,a new furnace and you won’t have any energy bills.
Reinsulation is a project that should be consider before any home improvement. You see a return on your investment sooner than any energy conservation measure, besides low flow shower heads, and CFL’S.
So come on Allentown,Bethlehem, Easton, Macungie we know you like doing your part, and saving money. Why not reinsulate and put an extra $75-$150 maybe even $300 dollars per month in your pocket. Reinsulation why not energy is not getting any cheaper.

Many of us in Pennsylvania have been greeted with a a dramatic power bill increase, this new price increase comes in the middle of one of the worst recessions we have seen in our lifetime.
This leaves us with only a few options. The first is to turn down the heat and the AC and either burn or freeze. Another option would be to make sure that your home is well insulated allowing you to live a normal life without all the excess costs.
In many cases the cost of the upgrade is partially covered by a series of tax credits that allow you to write off large parts of making your house energy efficient. This by itself allows you to offset part of these costs now, yet spend a lifetime in a more in efficient home.
The best way to proceed is to contact Energy Advisors they will help you get what you need in terms of energy efficiency, then they will help you navigate your way though the tax credit system so you can get your rebates.

Most people don’t think of snow as a good gauge for insulation in their homes. Why not? Because they don’t know how they relate. So here is the story.
You are providing heat for your home, to keep you warm. The rate at which the heat escapes determines how fast the snow on your roof melts.
It is very easy for us in the insulation business to determine which homes need insulation by the rate at which the snow melts from the roof.
Take a look around your neighborhood you will see some areas melting very fast, that typically is where the living area meets the roof. Usually in a cathedral ceiling or a staircase. Those big squares melted off, whole house fans. Little circles recessed lights. These are major areas of air leakage, which should be handled by a professional air sealing company.
Air sealing is one of the most important components to insulating. It can save you an additional 20% on energy costs. Air sealing is not commonly practiced throughout the insulation industry. There are few companies that air seal but with the snow on the roof it is apparent. You may have adequate insulation but your snow is still melting. Well if you added up all the air leakage from your living space to the attic it might be the equivalent of leaving a window open.
Leaving a window open in May not so bad but January,February,March not so good. The major problem without air sealing is that open window in your attic floor carries moisture, but that is not a problem now. Go ahead and insulate and the under side of your roof gets cold and that moisture condensates, then you loose your roof. Which by the way costs more than insulation and air sealing.
So next time the snow is off your roof a week before your neighbors, call a professional insulation and air sealing company.
Our customers in Wilmington, Hockessin, West Chester, and Kennett Square would agree. If you see an Energy Advisors job sign they will be the last to have snow on there roof.
